It’s a few days away yet, but because we’re so kind here at the Evening Times, we’re giving our readers plenty of warning so they can make some space - for the biggest grilled cheese sandwich ever made in Scotland.

To celebrate National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day (NGCSD) on Wednesday, April 12, the team at Graham’s the Family Dairy has teamed up with Nic’s NYC Deli in Byres Road to offer a sight never before seen.

The dish will see eight layers of gooey cheese sandwiched between layers of sourdough and Italian-style breads.

Inside each tier of cheddars, a different complementary flavour will be found, from sweet fried onion, to succulent pulled pork.

An added bonus? If plates are successfully cleared, stuffed diners will receive an official filter for their social media profiles.

But, the ten people to finish it off the quickest will also win A YEAR’S supply of Graham’s the Family Dairy cheese. To be eligible, plates must be finished within a 15-minute period. Cheese Louise!

So, cheese-lovers across the city - on your marks, get set...

The cheese stack is priced at £19.95 and will be on a first come, first served basis.

It seems there’s a national day for everything but breathing air, but NGCSD came about after the food was listed in a US reader’s opinion poll for being one of the top comfort foods in the country.

According to food historians, cooked bread and cheese is an ancient food, enjoyed across the world in many cultures.
