Legendary R&B artist Chaka Khan has been confirmed as the opening act of this year’s West End Festival.

The ‘Queen of Funk’ will appear at the open-air Kelvingrove Bandstand, with a full band, on Sunday, June 4.  

Khan - renowned for her timeless hits including ‘I’m Every Woman’, ‘Feel for You’, and ‘Ain’t Nobody’ - will be supported by legendary Soul II Soul frontman Jazzie B, who will play an exclusive DJ set.

Glasgow Times:

Renowned electronic music group Crazy P and home-grown Glasgow dance duo Harri & The Revenge will also be present.

The alfresco event will also feature a number of street food stalls and cocktails bars.

Organiser Brian Traynor described the singer as “a true legend,” adding: “We’re delighted to have her open this year’s festival at one of the city’s most iconic venues.

“I have no doubt this will be a sell-out event, so I’d encourage people to get in fast to ensure they don’t miss out on what’s going to be something quite special.”   

Khan’s career has spanned a staggering five decades.

She began her career in  the 1970s as the frontwoman and focal point of the funk band Rufus.

The 64-year-old has won ten Grammys and has sold an estimated 70 million records worldwide.

She has also been ranked as the 65th most successful dance artist of all time, according to Billboard magazine.
