A SPRING clean of a popular East End attraction will take place.

For a community group in the Calton will scrub clean a prominent artwork at Barrowland Park.

After years of neglect, the well-trodden Album Pathway will be given shine by campaigners Fans of Barrowland Park on Saturday, April 8.

Supporters are invited to help scrub their own patch of the 103-metre long path from 11am.

The committee formed last December to campaign against development proposals of the park by Glasgow City Council.

A temporary site earmarked for residential development, its current status is only guaranteed until September 2017.

A spokesman for the group said: “The park is a very popular spot with local people and tourists alike.

"Visitors can regularly be seen reading the Album Pathway and reminiscing about gigs featured on it which evoke happy memories.

"We are asking Glasgow City Council not to snatch that away, but instead to retain the park as an investment in the local community and in the local businesses nearby.”

The group have joined up with environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Under the banner of the nationwide Clean Up Scotland campaign, early arrivals on the day will be offered sweet treats courtesy of Greggs, as well as a yellow Clean Up branded tabard.
