FOOTBALL legends the Lisbon Lion's have been presented with Glasgow Lord Provost Sadie Docherty's top award.

They received the Loving Cup to mark the 50th anniversary of their historic European Cup win in 1967 when they became the first British team to lift the trophy.

They were among a host of individuals including an entrepreneur and a street sweeper to be honoured at a ceremony in the City Chambers.

Jim Craig of the Lisbon Lions said: "We are delighted to receive this honour from the city. It was totally unexpected but we are really happy to receive it.

"It is very humbling to be recognised in this way and we sincerely thank the Lord Provost for this gesture."

Glasgow born entrepreneur Akmal Khushi of outdoor clothing company Trespass received the award for business.

He has been the driving force behind the expansion and global success of the city based family company which now employs more than 1500 people.

Council street sweeper Frank Sharp was nominated by Mrs Docherty following praise from Battlefield shopkeepers.

She said: "He really goes above and beyond to keep the place clean and deliver a first class service to the area."

Dalmarnock Primary head teacher Nancy Clunie was nominated for an award by Ruth Donnelly of Glasgow's health and social care partnership.

She said: "Nancy is more than a head teacher, going well beyond her remit to support pupils and their families.

"Nancy is the person some of our most vulnerable parents go to when they need advice or a hug or just to feel valued and believed."

Bafta award winning actress Juliet Cadzow was presented with the award for performing arts.

She has appeared in film and TV classics including the Wicker Man and Balamory and is currently starring in River City as mum Suzie Fraser.

But she finds time to volunteer at Glasgow Caledonian University where she mentors, motivates and inspires performing and visual arts students.

Paralympic discus gold medal winner Jo Butterfield, who is paralysed from the waist down because of tumour on her spine, was presented with the sports award.

Awards also went to The Fraser Foundation, which in the last five years has donated £9million to hundreds of projects, Dr Carol Clugston, chief operating officer at the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at Glasgow University, Barmulloch resident Bernadette Hewitt for her work in the community and Marathon man John McGurk who was honoured for his charity fundraising.
