SCOTLAND is set for a long, hot summer with forecasters predicting a hotter than normal three months ahead with temperatures as high as 28°C (82°F).
Temperatures reached 19°C (66°F) over the weekend with Scotland as hot as Australia during Britain’s hottest day of the year so far.
But Government weathermen now say to expect above-average temperatures all the way through to the end of June.
Much-hotter-than-usual UK temperatures are nine times more likely than much-cooler-than-average, at 45 per cent versus 5 per cent.
The Met Office three-month forecast said: “For April-June, above-average UK temperatures are more probable than below-average. Warmth is being observed in many regions that are sources for air travelling to the UK. Below-average precipitation is slightly more probable than above-average.”
The Met Office three-month forecast is being briefed to the Cabinet Office,Councils, transport bosses and businesses are being alerted.
