MURDER cops launched a probe yesterday after a man was killed in a violent attack involving weapons in Glasgow’s East End.

Andrew Salina was seriously injured during the disturbance which happened at around 3.30am at a flat in Roystonhill.

Emergency services rushed to scene to save the 51-year-old but he was pronounced dead by paramedics.

Salina, who is originally from the Gorbals area of the city, had only just moved into the flat where he was murdered.

He had appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week on April 3 where he pled guilty to acting in a threatening or abusive manner at his then Waddell Street home in Gorbals.

Since the offence on April 26, last year, which included him shouting, swearing, making offensive comments and violent threats, he moved to Roystonhill in the city.

Papers from court showed that the offence was racially aggravated.

Sentence was deferred on Salina until October for good behaviour.

Cops cordoned off a large area of Roystonhill following the death which is being treated as murder.

Four police officers stood in pairs at either end of the cordon while top detectives from the Major Investigations Team looked for clues in a bid to find those responsible for Andrew’s death.

Police confirmed that one of line enquiry they are pursuing is tracking down three men who were seen driving into the area in a small motor before the killing and were spotted leaving shortly after.

Residents living in the same block as the victim spoke of their shock over what happened but did not know him personally.

Cops were also seen to be carrying out door-to-door enquiries in a bid to find witnesses and CCTV footage was also being grabbed as part of their probe.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Livingstone said: “I am asking for the assistance of the local community to come forward with any information you may have.

“It is possible you witnessed or heard a disturbance in Roystonhill at the junction with Millburn Street at around 3.30am.

“We also understand that three men were seen entering the area in a small light coloured car and were seen leaving the area in the same vehicle following the alleged incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
