A MAN raised a false alarm by dialling 999 to tell cops he was being chased by men who had knives.

James Joseph Davidson, 23, appeared in the dock for sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court that Davidson contacted Police Scotland using a mobile phone. He dialled 999 at around 3.40am on Saturday, December 19, 2015. He alleged he was being chased by men who had knives.

Due to the nature of the call, police officers rushed to the scene at Sandback Street, and activated the blue light on their car.

When they arrived, they called Davidson to see where he was.

The court heard he was under the influence of alcohol and he was argumentative, and unable to provide assistance to the police officers over where he was.

Officers eventually tracked him down at Campbell Street, and they asked him more about what happened. He provided several accounts of the story which varied each time before he admitted the report was false.

Davidson, of Shettleston Road, plead guilty to raising a false alarm of an emergency and requesting police assistance.

His defence agent said his client described his actions as stupid and he had little recollection of what happened.

He was placed under supervision for a year and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work in the community.
