Hundreds of Celtic fans brought a busy city centre street to standstill early on Friday morning with an impromptu celebration.

Fans were seen outside Campus bar on Sauchiehall Street singing football songs.

Crowds were chanting the Scott Sinclair "Logical" song, led by one man standing on top of a telephone box.

One onlooker said there appeared to be a “riot” of fans which forced police to shut off part of the street.

It was noted that around a thousand people were on the street during the incident.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Officers attended Sauchiehall Street when premises were closing around 3am due to the volume of people on the street.

"There were reports of a number of people standing on bins and officers closed the road for around 30 minutes to deal with the crowd.

"There was no reports of any Sectarian issues."

Hundreds of Celtic fans are expected to be descended on the city today ahead of a sold-out European Cup 50th Anniversary performance by Charlie and the Bhoys.

The band will be heading to the Barrowlands for the special gig.
