GANGSTA rapper Coolio has revealed he will be heading straight to Cardonald when he comes to Scotland for a show – to visit his old Celebrity Big Brother pal Tommy Sheridan.

The artist, who shot to fame in the 90s with charttopper Gangsta’s Paradise, admitted he still has a strong friendship with the politician who lives in Glasgow’s Southside.

The unlikely bromance was formed when the pair both appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2009.

Ulrika Jonsson was crowned the winner of that series, but it seems Tommy and Coolio have taken a lot more from the show with a friendship that has lasted longer than most in celebrity circles.

“I have some people in Scotland I consider like my family. Tommy Sheridan is my good friend,” Coolio revealed in his raspy American accent.

He continued: “We still keep in contact. I will probably go to his house for dinner when I come to Scotland like I did last time.

“I met his family and he has a lovely family. Hopefully we will get a chance to hang out, I would like to introduce him to some of my friends.

“Tommy is good people. I like his conviction. He stands up for what he believes in and I like that.”

The pair can perhaps take a trip down memory lane when Coolio comes to Glasgow in September to perform at the SSE Hydro.

He is one of the headlining artists on the I love the 90s tour which features Vanilla Ice, Salt n Pepa with Spinderella, Color Me Badd, Tone Loc and Young MC.

The nostalgic show will give him and other stars from that era a chance to perform iconic music in front of their fans when it comes to the venue on Saturday, September 20.

“The show is probably going to be like nothing you have ever seen when it comes to hip hop. It is going to be completely different. There will be something old and new,” he boasted.

He continued: “It is going to be over the top. I bring the live band aspect, Salt n Pepa have the over the top hip hop dancing and they got DJ Spinderella

"Vanilla Ice has this mad sick drummer. It is going to be like a musical hip hop education."

He added: "I think 90s music was some of the better music in the history of music. Definitely for hip hop.

"That was when the digital studio was invented in the 90s and it allowed us to do so many more things with the music than ever before. So I think it was a historical time for music itself and the application of music."

It would seem Coolio's fans are getting a hip hop education from the best. A global phenomenon, Gangsta’s Paradise was the highest selling single of 1995 hitting the number one spot across the world and cementing Coolio's place as one of the decade’s most important rap stars.

With subsequent dancefloor hits and a lengthy list of TV and film credits, Coolio remains a major force in music and entertainment.

He said: "I had no idea Gangsta's Paradise was going to be that big. It was a blessing.

"I like acting but I haven’t got the role that I would like to have. I don’t think that my acting will be recognised until I do my own thing which I am working on right now."

He added: "I don’t think people have really seen me act yet. But music is my life. It saved my life. Music will always be first."

Having grown up on the rough streets of LA's Compton, Coolio has been top choice for reality shows such as Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity Wife Swap.

He has a draw which allows him to capture audiences attention with both his life and celebrity experience.

Those shows are something he admitted he loved doing, purely because of the British humour.

He said: "I love British humour, it is over the top. I think it can sometimes be too much, they go hard on people.

"I got the experience so I can take it. But some people, they wreck some people.

"But for me I am very thick skinned. It don’t bother me. I think British humour is very humourous."

It is perhaps for this reason, he can't wait to come to Scotland to perform.

He said: "I quite like Scotland actually, I have three kilts. I own three kilts of my own that I wear often.

"You guys are very proud people with a long history and culture. I respect Scots."
