Police are treating an assault in Paisley that left a man in critical condition as attempted murder.

Detectives are continuing enquiries and appealing for witnesses after a 33-year-old man was attacked in the early hours on Saturday, April 22. 

The altercation took place at approximately 3am in New Street, near to its junction with Weighhouse Close, Paisley.

The man was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where he is being treated for a head injury. 

Hospital staff describe his condition as critical.

Detective Inspector Stuart Lees from Paisley Police Office said:

“Police enquiries are at an early stage to establish more details on circumstances the incident that took place and to identify those involved.  Officers have been gathering CCTV footage and carrying out enquiries in the area.
