Cops are appealing for information after a man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries when a group of men forced their way into his home in a violent attack.

Officers are continuing their enquiries after the incident in New Edinburgh Road in Uddingston at around 11pm on Friday.

The men, who police understand entered the area in a white Ford Transit van, are alleged to have shown up at the house where they started throwing bricks through the windows.

Three vehicles were damaged outside the property and one of the damaged cars is alleged to have been deliberately set ablaze.

A 39 year-old man then opened his door to challenge the men after which they forced their way inside.

The homeowner was left seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to Monklands Hospital where he received treatment.

Medical staff have described his condition as stable.

It has yet to be determined how many men were involved, or in what direction the suspects left after the incident.

Detective Constable Christopher Norton, Wishaw CID, who is leading the enquiry, described the attack as “brazen and targeted.”

He added: “No-one else was injured, however, local residents were left shocked by the nature of this violent incident.

“It’s imperative we trace the men responsible.

“We have been assessing available CCTV and speaking to local residents.

“Local residents and passing motorists will have witnessed or heard this disturbance. I would ask anyone with information to contact detectives at Wishaw.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wishaw CID via 101. Alternatively, calls can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given in complete confidence.
