A housebuilder has begun development at the former Mansionhouse Unit on Glasgow's Southside.

CALA Homes (West) has started building 101 flats in Mansionhouse Road in Langside.

The below artist's impression is the first image of what the site will look like.

As previously reported by the Evening Times, the development will be one, two and three-bedroom flats and a penthouse collection across three separate buildings.

Liana Canavan, Sales and Marketing Director for CALA Homes (West), said: “The Mansionhouse Road development is a key part of our activity in Glasgow for 2017 and we’re very pleased to be starting work on site.

“The area is very prominent on Glasgow’s south side and we’re really looking forward to seeing the development progress.

"The preparation works are the first step in the process and locals will gradually begin to see the homes taking shape.”

Residents objected strongly to the plans for the former hospital unit.

Langside, Battlefield and Camphill Community Council (LBCCC) led the charge against it, saying CALA Homes should reduce the number of flats and keep the height of the blocks to below four storeys.

A planning applications committee last March failed to reach an agreement on the plans and so councillors took the unusual step of arranging a site visit.

As the development does not meet certain policy requirements, CALA Homes was required to pay Glasgow City Council £184,820.

Following on-site demolition works, a series of essential ground preparation works took place ahead of construction starting this month.

A show apartment is expected winter 2017 with first residents expected in early spring 2018.
