A brazenly drunk clubber from North Lanarkshire has become an internet sensation after being filmed trying - and horribly failing - to attempt a backflip while on a night out.

In a 34-second clip posted onto Twitter by Jamie Cubis, the inebriated man decided to attempt the risky maneuver in the smoking section of Mega Bar and Hype club in Motherwell.

After much goading off the lads and being told he couldn’t do it, it’s clear where the situation is headed.

Having cleared himself a nice space and counting down from three, he goes for it, only to seemingly land flat on his face with a loud and meaty thud.

As the crowd cracks up (we love how everyone rushed to his aid), unsurprisingly, he gets up off the ground with his left side completely covered in dirt, ever the brave man he was before he went down.

The clip has, so far, received more than 35,000 reactions in just over 24 hours.

The man in question has since been identified as 21-year-old Shaun Paterson from the town of Bellshill who is celebrating his birthday today.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Shaun insisted “it wasn’t a faceplant,” adding: “I had dirt on my face because of the way I put my head down but I landed on my belly.”

Whatever the case, we’re just glad he’s okay. Happy birthday, Shaun!
