A MAN launched a tirade of abusive at a woman in the street after she took offence to him shouting at his dog.

A 28-year-old woman was working on Byres Road on March 4 when she saw William Westwater standing next to his car, which was parked in a disabled bay.

Westwater, 35, was leaning into his car, holding onto a dog lead and shouting at the animal.

The woman took out her mobile phone and filmed the accused as she was alarmed by his treatment of the animal.

Westwater then began shouting homophobic insults at her.

He went on to say: “I’ll slap you across the street, you stupid f****** d**e” and “I’ll take that phone and throw it across the road. Get to f***.”

He walked towards the woman and struck her on the hand, causing the phone to strike her on the head. The victim then walked away from the scene to get to work.

She later discovered that she had a cut below her left eye and reported the incident to police.

Westwater appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing, uttering homophobic remarks and threatening her with violence and striking the victim on the hand.

Sheriff Cameron ordered Westwater to pay a £600 fine and £250 compensation to the victim.
