A MAN who was allegedly attacked in Paisley has died in hospital. 

Police Scotland confirmed Johnathan McEwan, 33, died within the Royal Alexandra Hospital yesterday. 

He was taken to hospital to be treated for a head injury following an alleged altercation which took place at around 3am in New Street, near to its junction with Weighhouse Close, Paisley.

A statement released by his family said: “We would like to thank all the staff at the Intensive Care Unit in the Royal Alexandra Hospital and also the members of the Organ Donation Team.

"We would also like to thank all our family and friends for their support, and love that has been shown for Johnny and his family at this difficult time.”

Police said they will send a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Monday, an 18-year-old man appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court charged with attempted murder.
