A MAN could be left with permanent scars after being jumped in the city centre.

The man was walking with a male friend on Sauchiehall Street, near Cambridge Street, around 12.15am today when they were attacked.

The pair, both aged 38, were set upon by a group of five men and women and had to be rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital for treatment.

One of the men received severe facial injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

His friend was discharged following treatment.

Police are now looking for help to trace the five suspects, who are all thought to be around 18 years old, who carried out the brutal attack.

The first male suspect is described as black, with a slim build and wearing dark clothing. 

The second and third male suspects are both white and of a slim build. One of the men was wearing a checked shirt, dark jacket and dark jeans while the other was wearing a black Puffa jacket and black back-to-front baseball cap.

Two women are also being sought.

One woman is described as black, of slim build, wearing a black leather jacket and dark trousers.

The other is described as mixed race, slim and wearing a black jacket, grey t-shirtm dark jeans and was carrying a white shoulder bag. 

Detective Inspector David MacGregor, Greater Glasgow CID, is leading the investigation. 

He said: “The two men had been out for the night and were walking on Sauchiehall Street in the direction of Charing Cross.

"They spoke with the group of men and women as they passed them but they turned on both men and assaulted them.

“The attack was vicious leaving one of the men with a serious facial injury which may lead to scarring.

 “Officers are currently checking CCTV in the area, however, there were a number of people in the street at the time who I am sure saw what happened.

"I would appeal to them, or indeed anyone with information, to contact us.
