A fifteen-year-old boy has been left seriously injured after a van crashed into a bus stop.

The teenager is among four people who have been taken to hospital after the van mounted a kerb on Kilbowie Road, Clydebank, and crashed into a bus stop.

The 52-year-old driver of the van, a 43-year-old male pedestrian and a woman believed to be in her 40s were also injured.

The 43-year-old man is thought to be in a serious condition.

Adam McKenzie, Road Policing Inspector, Clydebank, said: "About 7.45am this morning a van was travelling southbound on Kilbowie Road when, for reasons unknown to us, he mounted the kerb and collided with the bus stop and persons standing at the bus stop.

"The driver is currently at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital receiving some treatment. His condition is not thought to be serious.

"Three persons who were at the bus stop - two males and a female - are also recieving treatment. One of the males, a 15-year-old boy, has serious injuries."

Emergency services were called to the scene at 7.45am shortly after the Renault van, belonging to local plumbing and heating company HiFlow, struck the bus stop.

A number of members of the public came to the aid of the injured before they arrived on the scene.

Eyewitnesses said that several local residents ran from their homes to help.

Adam McKenzie, praised their response, commenting: "I would like to thank and commend the public for their actions in assisting those who were injured."

Jon Dunsmore, owner of Jon & Co Hairdressers, located directly behind the bus stop said the scene was "utter carnage".

He added: "I recieved a call just after it happened to say there had been an incident.

"I got here just after 8am and it was carnage. There was fire engines, ambulances and police.

"I couldn't see any of the injured because they were receiving treatment but the bus stop is completely destroyed.

"One of the posts from the bus stop went through the windscreen.

"The road is usually really busy at that time in the morning, and the junction at Kilbowie Road is really bad."

The road remains closed and diversions are in place.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 101 and offer any images or videos they may have taken.
