CHEF Rachna Dheer has created a hamburger with a traditional Scottish twist - by using onions cooked in IRN BRU!

Now visitors to Soar at intu Braehead leisure destination will have the chance to learn how to cook this new delicacy at a free Totally Tasty event on Monday, May 1 between 2pm and 6pm.

During Totally Tasty, hosted by Clyde 1 presenter Cassi, Rachna will demonstrate how to cook delicious dishes from around the world and give visitors the chance to sample her culinary skills.

At 2pm, Rachna – who runs the Babu Bombay Street Kitchen, in Glasgow - will cook a typical Indian chicken curry and at 3pm, she’ll create a classic Italian amatriciana bucatini.

Then at 4pm, the unique American pork burgers with Irn Bru onions and tamarind brown sauce will be sizzling on the pan, followed at 5pm by Mexican churros with coconut sauce.

Rachna said: “I came up with the idea of the Irn Bru onions one day when I was cooking a burger and I wanted to make it more Scottish. And I don’t think there’s much more Scottish than Irn Bru!

“I soon realised that the popular fizzy drink works really well when you’re frying sliced onions in the pan with butter and you pour in Irn Bru.

“The sugar in the drink caramelises the onions and makes them really juicy and you can taste the Irn Bru when you eat them.

“People can’t believe what I’m doing when they see me pour the Irn Bru over the onions, but they taste great topping off a burger in a Morton’s roll.”

There will also be free interactive foodie activities for kids with the Larder School Cook during Totally Tasty event.
