A MAN who grabbed a stranger by the throat in public has been put behind bars.

Paul McMinigal seized the woman by the neck on Springfield Road on January 25, 2017.

The 35-year-old had been out on bail for just two weeks at the time of the incident.

He was sentenced to eight months behind bars by Sheriff Danny Scullion, who said: "It involves you seizing a mature woman, who was a complete stranger to you, by the throat.

"It is concerning conduct and it is aggravated by the fact of you having been in public."

McMinigal, a court heard, had a string of previous offences including being in possession of offensive weapons and knives when the incident took place.
