Investigations are underway to determine the cause of a crash which left four people in hospital.

Officers are appealing for information after a van mounted a kerb and collided with bus stop in Clydebank.

A fifteen-year-old boy and a 43-year-old man, who were standing at the bus stop, were seriously injured in the incident.

The driver, a 52-year-old male and a woman, believed to be in her 40s, were also treated for injuries not thought to be serious.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Kilbowie Road around 7.45am on Friday April 28.

The Renault van, belonging to local plumbing and heating company hiflow, was travelling southbound on the road when the crash happened.

Adam McKenzie, Road Policing Inspector, Clydebank, said: “For reasons unknown to us, he mounted the kerb and collided with the bus stop and persons standing at the bus stop.

“We are in the process of establishing the exact circumstances of the incident and I would like to appeal to people who were in the area at the time to contact us.

“If you saw the van or the incident, please do contact us and pass the information on.”

Inspector McKenzie also praised the response of the local community who rushed to the aid of those who were injured before emergency services arrived.

Eyewitnesses said that several local residents ran from their homes to help.

Jon Dunsmore, owner of Jon & Co Hairdressers, located directly behind the bus stop said the scene was “utter carnage”.

He added: “I recieved a call just after it happened to say there had been an incident.

“I got here just after 8am and it was carnage.

“There was fire engines, ambulances and police.

“I couldn’t see anyone who had been injured because they were receiving treatment but the bus stop is completely destroyed.

“One of the posts from the bus stop went through the windscreen.

“The road is usually really busy in the morning with everyone heading to school and work, and the junction at Kilbowie Road is really bad.

“Because it is so busy, people don’t really speed down it so I’m not sure how it happened.”

The road was closed for several hours as investigators conducted enquiries at the scene.
