Scott Sinclair has responded to supporters’ racist acts from the Old Firm match at Ibrox today, saying there’s “just no need” for such attitudes.

The Celtic winger became the centre of attention at the game, but for all the wrong reasons this afternoon.

TV audiences across the country were horrified when they saw a Rangers supporter imitating a monkey in the direction of the footballer as he celebrated with teammates having scored the opener.

In their droves, footie fans flooded social media condemning the shocking act, with some even saying the man’s actions were “Scotland’s shame.”

Reflecting on the game, the 28-year-old said on Twitter tonight: “What a team performance yet again, the fans were right behind us from start to finish.”

Taking a more serious note, though, he added: “Just a shame to end the game and seeing the ignorance of people no matter what team u support there is just no need for racism!”

One Rangers fan was praised by both Hoops and Gers fans when he replied to Sinclair: “Was disgusted to see that when I got home, don’t care if you play for Celtic or any other team, that sort of thing should never happen.

“We don’t need people like that in our stadium.”

Police Scotland confirmed that eight arrests were made at the game.

Cops also said they would be are investigating the incident of racial abuse.

A police spokesman said: “We are aware of that incident and inquiries are ongoing.”

A Rangers spokesman added: “Rangers does not condone any form of unacceptable behaviour and the matter is now in the hands of Police Scotland.”
