A BATCH of bikes were nicked from the city-wide hire scheme outside one of the city’s biggest music venues.

Police are now investigating after five of the ‘People Make Glasgow’ bikes were stolen outside the SSE Hydro at around 8.45pm on Saturday night.

The raid on the cycles was carried out as thousands of revellers poured into the venue in Finnieston to watch popular teen band The Vamps.

The Evening Times understands that the venue’s CCTV has captured the theft.

Police, however, say enquires are ongoing.

The Evening Times revealed back in February that crafty crooks had cracked the code to steal the bikes.

We revealed that 35 of the bright pink ‘People Make Glasgow’ bikes have been stolen since August last year.

Bike stations in Govan and the East End were the hardest with crooks managing to override the security on the cycles.

But the latest haul proves that the station outside the city’s biggest entertainment complex The Scottish Event Campus, which takes in the SEC centre, The SSE Hydro and SEC Armadillo, is now a target.

Operator NextBike, however, replace the stolen bikes at no cost to Glasgow City Council.

They have also been working with Police Scotland, Community Safety Glasgow and several community groups in a bid to reduce the number of thefts.
