A GANG of four men armed with weapons attacked a 32-year-old man in Clydebank.

Police are now investigating the murder bid which happened at around 1pm on Friday.

They were sent to a report of a man having been found seriously injured after being attacked in Gilmour Avenue in the Hardgate area of the town.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken by ambulance to hospital where medical staff describe his condition as serious.

From what police understand, four men are believed to have entered the area in a black 5-door BMW 1 Series, assaulting the man with weapons, before making off in the direction of Kilbowie Road towards Glasgow Road.

Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham said: “This was a targeted and brazen attack on a single individual which took place in broad daylight.

“Gilmour Avenue is a quiet residential area and nearby residents were left shocked by this violent incident.

“We are currently assessing CCTV and conducting door to door enquiries. We understand a black 5-door BMW 1 Series was used by the suspects.

“The suspects can only be described at this time as wearing dark clothing.

“Local residents and passing motorists will have witnessed or heard this disturbance given the time the incident occurred.

“We would ask anyone with information to contact us.

“You may have witnessed the attack or noticed a dark BMW in the area beforehand or driving away from the area following the incident.

“I would ask anyone with information to contact Clydebank CID.”

He said officers remained in the area yesterday, with high visibility patrols taking place throughout Hardgate.

Det Supt Graham added: “I want to reassure local residents that we are doing all we can to trace the men responsible.

“Please contact police with any information or approach local officers in your area today with any concerns that you have.”
