THE new £2 drop-off system at Glasgow Airport has been branded as an "accident waiting to happen" by motorists who had to queue on the M8 to get into it.

Outraged passengers voiced their anger on social media about the tailbacks they experienced while they tried to access the new multi-million pound traffic layout at Scotland's busiest airport.

Drivers dropping passengers off now have to pay £2 for a stay of up to 10 minutes.

The new charges came into effect last week. The changes were said to the be final step in a wider scheme of works to reduce congestion and improve the flow of traffic on the airport’s road network.

However, the plans seems to have had the opposite effect with angry travellers complaining about increased traffic and queues as a result.

Others feared that someone "will get killed" as a result of the excess traffic.

It was also branded as an "accident waiting to happen".

Traffic Scotland also tweeted a snapshot of the congestion on the busy M8.

Glasgow Airport have since apologised for the delays which they blamed on "unusually high" volumes of traffic entering the airport.
