SCOTLAND will be basking in sunshine again today, as forecasters confirmed the good weather is to continue all weekend.

Temperatures are to be some of the highest in the UK, with forecasters from the Met Office adding that Scotland was the “best place to be” for the sun yesterday after there was cloudy weather down south.

Average temperatures reached 16˚C with locals flocking to hotspots to soak up the sun.

Glasgow and the west in had some of the best weather, with temperatures in some parts hitting 18˚C.

Achnagart in Ross-shire was named the warmest place in Britain yesterday after it reached 20˚C in the area – hotter than Barcelona.

Graham Madge, spokesman for the Met Office, said the weather would remain clear and sunny in Scotland during the weekend.

May has already had a bumper start, with temperatures reaching 17˚C for the Bank Holiday, and the rest of the month is forecast to be hotter than average.

Mr Madge said Scotland is one of the better places to be for the good weather at the moment.

He said: “The west of Scotland in particular is getting some of the highest temperatures and for Glasgow over the next few days it’s looking like 15˚C to 16˚C, possibly as high as 18˚C.”

He added that, despite the coming days starting off cool and cloudy, they would clear to blue skies.

Dundee, Aberdeen and the east coast are expected to have some fine sunny spells, with maximum temperatures reaching about 15˚C, though it will be warmer inland and cooler on the coast.

A low pressure weather front means that the south of England is set for rain on Saturday, but Scotland and other parts of England are expected to by dry well into next week.
