Vandalised fire hydrants in the Drumchapel area caused homes to go without water for over three hours.

Scottish Water received six calls last night just after 6.30pm as the damaged hydrants affected residents' water supplies on Halgreen Avenue and Dunkenny Road.

One resident on Halgreen Avenue said: "I had no water from 6.30pm top 10pm last night and it wasn't just me who was affected.

Glasgow Times:

"It's completely out of order."

A Scottish Water spokesman said: "We would urge people not to vandalise fire hydrants as this can cause disruption to water supplies to thousands of customers.

"Fire hydrants are a connection point to water mains and allow access to the water network, primarily for fire fighting purposes, and reduced water pressure can adversely affect the ability of firefighters to tackle fires."

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were also called out to the fire hydrants but handed responibilty to Scottish Water.
