The heartbroken husband of Scottish woman Kirsty Maxwell, who fell to her death from a hotel balcony in Benidorm, has demanded answers from the five men who were last to see her alive.

Speaking out for the first time since his wife plunged from the tenth floor apartment, Adam Maxwell claimed that something bad had taken place in the room.

His wife, a bank clerk from Livingston, fell from the balcony at the two-star Apartamentos Payma, where with five men were drinking and taking drugs.

Adam and his 27-year-old wife had only been married seven months and he criticised suggestions that she was suicidal, on drugs or attempting to jump 100ft into the pool below.

According to the Mirror, Adam said:

“Something dark happened in that room — and I won’t rest until I know the truth.

“Kirsty was happy and healthy and had everything to live for.

“It’s crazy to suggest she killed herself.

“The men in the room suggested she was high on drugs, but I’ve been with her nine years and know she hated drugs.

“She didn’t even smoke.

“Only these five men know the answer and I’m amazed that they have been allowed to fly home to the UK after giving contradictory statements.

“I have lost the love of my life just as we were about to start a family and I’m devastated — absolutely heartbroken.

“But I’m also struggling to control my anger and frustration.

“I want these men ordered back to Spain to explain exactly what happened.”

One of the five men, Joseph Graham, who was arrested in connection with the young Scot's death, was released from custody and returned to the UK.

He released a statement saying that he did nothing wrong and is innocent despite speculation surrounding how the young Scot died.
