TWO young people who died in a crash in Lambhill have been remembered by family and friends one year on..

Gemma McMonagle, 24, and pal Kieran Lundie, 21, were both tragically killed when his car skidded off Balmore Road, near to Skirsa Street.

The pair died after their car crashed into water at around 12.45am on Sunday, May 15, last year.

The Immaculate Conception Church in Maryhill where their funeral mass was held last year paid tribute to the pair.

A statement said: "A year ago, we learned of a terrible car accident. Two of our young people, Gemma McMonagle and Kieran Lundie lost their lives and changed the lives of all those they loved forever.

"When you look at a picture of them, know they are both at peace, so pray hard for their parents, brothers, sisters and grandparents.

"Even a tragedy like this helped reveal the true goodness in our community here in Maryhill, especially among the 'young team' - Gemma and Kieran's many friends.

"Gone but most certainly not - or ever - forgotten. Rest in peace."

Three other young people including Gemma’s boyfriend Jason Taylor, 24, were seriously injured in the crash.

It is understood a private celebration of the pair's lives was held by family and friends recently.

Glasgow Times:

Gemma’s grieving mother Lynn, above, previously told The Evening Times of the utter devastation of losing a daughter who was,“her workmate, her pal. Everything rolled into one.”

The same stretch of road claimed the life of Lawrence Fraser, 21, who died in hospital after his Honda CB600 motorbike was involved in a crash with a Renault Clio and a Metrocab on Balmore Road near to its junction with Skirsa Street.

The crash on the same stretch of road happened last month.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to find Lawrence seriously injured.

He was rushed to Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary where he later died.
