THE first designs for the South City Way cycling route will be shown to locals at a meeting on Saturday.

First revealed by the Evening Times, the project won £3.25million funding from the Scottish Government and Sustrans and Glasgow City Council is providing £3.25m.

Since the winning project was announced last summer, the city council has been working on design work for the route and the first phase between Queen’s Park and Queen’s Park Station.

These plans will be shared at an event tomorrow at the new Bike Station hub at 509 Victoria Road from noon until 4pm.

A meeting with local traders is also planned. This will be held on Tuesday, May 23 from 4.30pm until 7pm in Govanhill Baths on Calder Street.

At the new Bike Station re-cycled bikes will be on sale, there will be cycle training and cycle activities planned too.

Local councillor Soryia Siddique said: “I welcome the continued investment in promoting bike hire and cycling in Southside Central.

“I will be urging for ongoing consultation events ensuring the local community is at the heart of the decision making process.”
