A GOVAN documentary maker has released a preview of the latest installment of his 'A Weegie Abroad' series - and this time he is tackling South East Asia.

Derek Mackay, whose alter-ego is Delboy the Scumbag, and his friend Tommy Slack, visited several countries including Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand back in January - and they have captured their travels for their new film.

In the third installment of the series, Derek embarks on a journey of self discovery, and his classic Glaswegian manner is showcased in an environment like no other.

Tommy, 34, who is the cameraman, director and producer of the series, said: "Derek got in touch with me about six years asking if I would document his trip around Europe. This was not scripted and it was fly off the wall style documentary.

"The second film we went to San Diego, LA and Las Vegas and then at the start of January we spent a month out in South East Asia."

Council work Derek, 33, self-funds the series with Tommy providing the technical know-how. He realised his dream of travelling as a child growing up in Govan. He has dyslexia and was teased over this which gave him the determination to see the world.

Tommy said: "In this new film, Derek emerges himself in a culture which is completely different from ours. But he is straight out of Govan and he visits places like Vietnam and speaks to the local.

"He is more mature in this film. It is not as high energy as the previous ones. This film shows a spiritual side to Derek particularly with the locations."

The pair have received no funding for the series and Derek pours his hard earned cash into making each film a success.

Previous Scottish premieres of the first two films have attracted rave reviews and the pair hope to showcase their latest efforts at the Grosvenor in Ashton Lane later this year.
