HUNDREDS of people have signed a petition calling for the demolition of a once popular Springburn boozer which is now derelict.

Springburn Community Council want Glasgow City Council to step in and enforce the demolition of The Talisman pub on Balgrayhill Road which they describe as a local ‘eyesore’.

They believe the local authority could employ a Compulsory Purchase Order to ensure the building is gone forever.

The Evening Times reported last month that the group had launched a petition.

That petition, which is to be handed into the city council, has attracted 550 signatures.

Olivia Brooks, chairwoman of the community council, said: “The petition totals 550 signatures. In a small area like Springburn, this highlights concerns that the local people have.

“The petition highlights that the Tailsman, although deemed structurally sound is a safety concern in the local area. It is considered to be a blight on our landscape and symbolic of the regeneration we believe that Springburn sorely needs.”

The online petition is the latest step which the community has taken in a bid to get rid of the building once and for all. The council previously said they will listen to residents concerns.
