A nurse has been suspended after stealing £40 from a vulnerable care home resident.

Victoria Blair was given the cash by the daughter of the resident - who "lacked mental capacity" - while working at Hogganfield Loch Care Home in the city's Royston Road.

The money was supposed to pay for costs of the residence but a Nursing and Midwifery Council panel found she pocketed it - despite giving the family a receipt.

Ms Blair was only found out when bosses contacted relatives over the unpaid fees.

A hearing before the watchdog took place on Tuesday and Wednesday to decide what action should be taken.

The panel said: "Miss Blair has expressed no insight, remorse, recognition of the seriousness or acceptance of any responsibility for her actions.

"On the contrary, she denied the matter of dishonesty and consistently sought to deflect blame and excuse her failures to adhere to policies and procedures on the home's culture of mismanagement and overall poor practices and procedures."

It was also found she failed to log receipt of the money or put it in a safe.

The allegations related to incidents which were said to have taken place in May 2015.

In July of that year, Ms Blair was also found to have failed to log receiving £50 of another resident's money, leave a receipt or get another staff member to witness the cash transferral.

The home cares for OAPs and people under 65 who have cognitive impairment.

Ms Blair was given an interim suspension order of 18 months for her misconduct. However, if no appeal is lodged within 28 days she will be struck off.
