TWO Glasgow schoolgirls have been named runners-up in the national final of a public speaking competition organised by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS).
Glasgow Gaelic School’s Johanna Peters and Jessica Gow competed against pupils from Castle Douglas and Robert Gordon’s College at the national final at Parliament House on May 23.
The competition originated in Glasgow in 2012 and has quickly grown to be a national event. It is part of COPFS’s ongoing strategy aimed at improving understanding of equality and diversity issues.
This year’s competition attracted entrants from 74 schools across Scotland, and it ran for six months and featured nearly 200 pupils.
Lord Advocate James Wolffe QC said:”This competition has given young people across Scotland an opportunity to reflect on what equality and diversity mean for them, to gain experience in public speaking, and I hope, to have fun.”
