A Glasgow MSP wants Gordon brown to be clear if Labour’s federalism plans would require another referendum.

Mr Brown, who is due to campaign for Labour today in the west of Scotland has proposed a federal solution for the UK to settle the independence debate.

Adam Tomkins, Glasgow Conservative MSP said people need to know how it could be brough about.

He said: “To move to a federal UK would mark a historic and monumental constitutional change.

“As a leading proponent of the idea, Gordon Brown has to spell out how it would be achieved.

“Kezia Dugdale has raised the prospect of presenting it as an option in a second referendum on Scottish independence and, as we see Labour cosying up ever closer to the SNP, that is bound to set alarm bells ringing.

“Gordon Brown and Scottish Labour need to come clean about exactly what they are planning.”

Mr Brown is expected in Inverclyde, backing Labour candidate Martin McCluskey.

Meanwhile analysis by pollster Lord Ashcroft has suggested some voters turning away from the SNP because of the pursuit of independence

Miles Briggs, Edinburgh Tory candidate said: “This study shows even SNP voters are getting sick of Nicola Sturgeon’s independence obsession.

“They’ve moved on from the referendum, and so should the First Minister.
