Lubomir Moravcik believes that Moussa Dembele is a better bargain for Celtic than he was because the French striker will net the Hoops a tidy profit when-ever the time comes for him to move on.
Moravcik was signed for just £350k by Dr Josef Venglos, a purchase that sparked ridicule at the time because little was known about the Slovakian.
Moravick, though, did not take long to etch a memorable imprint at Celtic with a magical touch and a skill bordering on the sublime.
He left the club as a firm
favourite after his creativity and ingenuity with the ball endeared him time and time again.
Always lauded as one of the great bargains at the club, Moravcik feels that Dembele – who cost Celtic £550,000 from Fulham last summer – will be ready to steal his crown.
“Dembele is big value because he can be sold,” said Moravcik, who ended his
playing career at Celtic.
“I hope he will stay another couple of seasons and score a lot of goals for Celtic. After that? Who knows? He will maybe get an offer from another big club in a bigger league.
“The Scottish league is a good league, but Celtic and Rangers are unlucky to play there. They are both very big clubs who could play in a better league.
“I have watched highlights of his goals on You Tube because he’s scored 32 goals. He has scored great goals, better than mine!
His goals have been fantastic, in the top corner, everything. He is a fantastic player.
“Sometimes you find a player who explodes here. I was also a good player during my career, but I didn’t play for a big club and people didn’t recognise me in football. But Dembele is much younger than me.”
Interest is expected this summer with Chelsea keen on taking the striker to Stamford Bridge.
The 20-year-old netted 32 goals this season before his campaign was ended through injury but Moravcik believes the striker would be better off remaining at Celtic for at least another season.
Celtic will push to make it through the qualifiers to land an invite to the group stages of the Champions League again this term and Moravcik believed Europe’s premier club is the ideal stage for the Dembele to showcase his talents.
“I hope he stays for another season and scores good goals in the Champions League,” he said.
“I think he has been a good example for young players. He has shown them that it is a good idea to come to Celtic and play in this league. It is maybe easier to score goals here at the beginning of your career than it is in England or other bigger leagues.
“The Scottish league is good and Celtic is a big club with fantastic fans. It is a pleasure to play here.
“I think playing against good clubs at a higher level in the Champions League is maybe the best thing for him now. It will be good for him to test himself at that level.”
While there was a comparison between Dembele and Moravcik given the similarity of their pricetags – Dembele  was a steal due to cross border regulations – it is the story of Henrik Larsson that Moravcik might be a more telling one to make.
“I don’t know why he left Paris Saint-Germain,” said Moravcik, referring to where Dembele began before leaving for Fulham as a 16-year-old. “When I was 18 I didn’t get into the first team at the club that I was at.
“I had to go to the Third Division, then moved up to the Second Division and so on. Some players can start off in the very top league, but some players must go forward step by step forward.
“But Henrik also came from Feyenoord after a difficult time and exploded here. After that he was very good at big clubs, Barcelona and Manchester United.
“That is maybe a better comparison than me because Henrik was also very young when he came here.
“He came through here and went on to win the Champions League. I think it is a similar situation with Dembele now.”

Moravcik was part of the last Celtic team who won a Treble under
Martin O’Neill 17 years ago.
And the little Slovakian is delighted to say the feat repeated this term – with a team who have not lost a domestic game.
“It is fantastic,” he smiled. “It is a very good story.
“Scott Sinclair has also scored a lot of goals. That was another good signing, but that was for more money.
“It is good now to see the team play good football and score a lot of goals. To not get beaten during the season is a fantastic performance. To win the Treble is perfect.”
