CALLING all hospice supporters – it is time to Raise the Roof.

Scots actress Laura Fraser, star of new TV thriller The Loch, is backing the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice’s new fundraising campaign which kicks off today.

The Breaking Bad star is urging people to get behind the latest appeal for donations to help build the new hospice in Bellahouston Park.

Construction began in September on land gifted by Glasgow City Council and now, work on the roof is ready to start.

Laura said: “We are so lucky to have somewhere in Glasgow that provides free and compassionate care when we or someone we love are at their most vulnerable.

“The new state-of-the-art home for thee Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice will enable their amazing staff to deliver even better care to patients and their families.”

Raise the Roof marks the latest stage of the hospice’s £21million Brick by Brick Appeal, which is just £1.4 million short of its target.

Entrepreneur Oli Norman, whose dad, David, was a patient in the hospice, is also backing Raise the Roof by offering supporters the chance to buy a roof tile for £5 and make a donation on his Itison deals website.

Oli said: “Unfortunately it’s only if you need the hospice’s services that you realise how truly incredible it is. It is a sad fact that the hospice relies on public donations to fund a large part of its services. We’d like to do our bit - we’ll be donating and hope you will too.”

You can read Oli’s story in tomorrow’s Evening Times and online at www.eveningtimes.co.uk.

Rhona Baillie, hospice chief executive said: “This is such an exciting time for us as we see our dream become reality.

“We are extremely grateful to the people of Glasgow and beyond for their support. We are asking them now to stay on the journey with us until the new hospice is built.

“The hospice team supports patients and families through what is often the most harrowing time of their lives.”
