A CAR flipped onto its roof after it crashed at high speed in Glasgow’s Southside

Grzegorz Pasternak, 36, was in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to a driving offence and failing to comply with a breath test.

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court that a witness who lives on Brockburn Road in Crookston look out their window and spotted Pasternak driving his car at speeds of up to 60mph on the dual carriageway at around 7.50pm on January 28, this year.

The car narrowly missed a taxi in front of it and Pasternak then lost control of his vehicle.

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court that impact of the crash caused the car to flip onto its roof.

Police who were nearby were alerted to the crash and when they approached the vehicle, bystanders had freed Pasternak.

The court heard that officers could detect a strong smell of alcohol from Pasternak.

He was arrested and taken to Helen Street Police Office where he failed to provide a specimen of his breath. The breath test is carried out by police officers to ascertain whether a person is over the drink drive limit.

The court heard that the crash site was near a bus stop and a children’s play area. Pasternak’s car was also scrapped following the crash.

Pasternak’s defence agent told the court that the crime was “very serious” and his client was aware of that.

He added that his client, who is a mechanic, foolishly drove the car after having a domestic with his partner.

Sheriff Kelly ordered Pasternak, of Linndale Oval, Castlemilk, to complete 260 hours of unpaid work in the community within a year. He was also banned from driving for three years and ordered to resit the test instead of custody.
