Jeremy Corbyn said Labour is ready to govern if the Tory Party’s ‘Coalition of chaos” with the DUP doesn’t work out.

Speaking as MPs returned to the House of Commons, the Labour Leader took a swipe at the Conservatives and Theresa May.

He turned her campaign soundbites round to mock the Tories after she failed to win the increased majority the Tories expected.

Mr Corbyn congratulated the Prime Minister as is customary after an election.

However he added: “Democracy is a wonderful thing and can throw up some unexpected results. “We all look forward to welcoming the Queen’s Speech just as soon as the coalition of chaos has been negotiated.

“I’ll just let the house know and the rest of the nation know that if that’s not possible the Labour Party stands ready to offer strong and stable leadership in the national interest.

In congratulating Ken Clarke becoming Father of the House, Mr Corbyn remembered a speech during the EU referendum in which Mr Clarke “lamented” his party had become “mildly anti-immigrant”

Mr Corbyn added: “How new a development that might be is open to debate but I’m sorry to note it has also become to put it generously, anti-worker, anti-disabled people, anti-pensioner and anti-young person as well”
