NICOLA Sturgeon has written to Theresa May to tell her that a Brexit deal cannot be put in place without the cooperation of the Scottish Government.

Ms Sturgeon has told the Prime Minister that to do so Scotland and the other devolved governments must be included in the negotiations with the EU.

She restated her call for the UK to remain in the single market and told the Prime Minister she has no mandate to pursue her hard Brexit agenda

She said: “It will not be possible for the UK to effectively implement to outcome of the Brexit negotiations without the cooperation of the devolved governments

“It is therefore essential that we are part of the negotiating process”

The First Minister told Ms May that while she is reflecting on the General election result so must the Prime Minister.

She said: “I hope that the UK Government too will reflect on what the election results mean for the importance of finding an outcome from Brexit that meets the needs and aspirations of all the people and nations of the UK.”

The First Minister told the Prime Minister that there will be severe consequences for jobs in Scotland from a so called hard Brexit.

She said: “Removing Scotland from the single market and customs union will cause severe long tem economic damage hitting jobs growth and living standards.”

She said Ms May failed to get support for her mandate to negotiate to leave the EU and said a new proposal was now needed to protect the economy.
