A GLASGOW housing association has committed itself to building 600 homes in the north of the city over the next three years.

Queens Cross Housing Association revealed plans to construct affordable housing at Hamiltonhill on brown field behind Firhill Stadium to improve living standards in the area.

The plans are part of its new business plan to be carried out over the next three years.

Marilyn Clewes, the chairwoman of Queens Cross, said: “We have been at the heart of the transformation of this area of the city over the past four decades and continue to look at innovative ways of making our tenants lives better.

“Queens Cross is now one of the fastest growing populations in the city as the area becomes an increasingly popular quarter.

“Our business plan outlines how we are going to manage the demands for housing and housing services from all sectors of our diverse community as it grows. We are striving to make Queens Cross a place everyone can feel at home.”

The association also sets out to build a new older persons’ development in Burnbank Gardens, invest in a new support centre for young homeless people and channel more investment in refurbishing flats into high-quality properties.

It also aims to continue to improve support for older tenants to help them live independently for as long as possible.

A public drop in session for residents to have their say about the new housing development at Burnbank Gardens was held today with another scheduled for Saturday at the Courtyard Community Centre in Hamiltonhill.

Shona Stephen, the chief executive of Queens Cross, said: “In the 21st century housing associations need to be more than just housing providers. Our aims for 2020 are simple, improving the quality of lives for people who live in Queens Cross.”
