After Nintendo reignited a sense of nostalgia for retro gamers around the globe by bringing back several popular titles, its long-time nemesis Sega is now doing the same.

The Tokyo-based video game developer announced the release of SEGA Forever—an umbrella app that will offer classic games from Master System, Genesis/Mega Drive and Dreamcast.

The free-to-play apps launched on both iOS and Android this week, and will feature games including: Altered Beast, Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, Phantasy Star II and Sonic The Hedgehog.

Although not all titles will be made available at once -Sonic is first up for grabs - SEGA promised to release a new game every two weeks.

Each game will be faithful to the original by keeping the default difficulty of levels and aids.

Games can be played via a portable device's touchscreen or by a controller and the firm said it would eventually add a multiplayer option to many of the games.
