A THIEF battered a sleeping man in order to steal his car.
The bold intruder attacked the 46-year-old man at his home at Ross Drive in Airdrie at around 4.30am on Tuesday, June 20.
Police say the victim was asleep when he was assaulted by a male intruder. 
The intruder then stole the keys to his white Audi A6 car and drove off in it.
The 46-year-old man was treated at Monklands District General Hospital for injuries to his face and body before being released. 
The car was recovered burnt out in Stonedyke Road, Carluke around 5.50am on Tuesday, June 20.
The suspect is described as white, 5ft 8 inches, aged 16 to 20 years old, heavy built with short dark hair. He was wearing a grey coloured hooded tracksuit
Detective Constable Clare Cassidy at Coatbridge CID said: “This was a very traumatic experience for the victim who was sleeping in his bed when he was callously attacked, leaving him with injuries that required medical attention.
“I’d like to speak to anyone who may have seen the suspect hanging around the vicinity of Ross Drive in Airdrie around 4.30am on Tuesday, June 20 or anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in Stonedyke Road, Carluke afterwards.”
