This little puppy dubbed 'tiny' Tim is so wee he is smaller than a can of Irn-Bru.

Born on May 2, the little Yorkshire Terrier weighed just 2.5 ounces and his little head was barely the size of a 50p coin.

The diminutive dog is smaller than a can of pop and his head barely the size of a 50 pence piece.

Now seven-weeks-old and tipping the scales at a mighty 8oz, this cute little canine is getting stronger thanks to owner, Andrea Mcgowan, reports the Bolton News

The 42-year-old, who lives in England said: “He was one of our pups out of a litter of six.

“He has to be kept under constant supervision with the other pups as they play very roughly and he’s much smaller. He loves cuddles and chewing fingers.”

Born to mum, Dolly and dad, Sammy, one of Tim’s brothers unfortunately only survived a few hours after being born.

And it wasn’t plain sailing for Tim, who had to be revived at birth and has battled through illness.

Thankfully, Tim’s now enjoying his food and building his strength.

“He’s had a very tough time but is getting a little bigger each day,” added Andrea.

“He was too weak to feed from his mum and has been bottle fed since birth.

“He’s just recovered from a nasty infection with the help of antibiotics.

“Tim has just started eating puppy food and is very greedy.

“He’s our little fighter.”

Readers have already fallen in love with Tim after we posted his picture at theboltonnews.co.uk.

We even sent the size comparison picture of Tim next to a can of Irn Bru to the Scottish drinks company.

They cheekily suggested that Tim was either Bolton’s smallest dog, or ‘sat next to Bolton’s biggest can of pop’.

While tiny Tim has got a good claim to be Bolton’s smallest pup, how does he compare to other diminutive dogs worldwide?

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the title of world’s smallest dog belongs to Milly, a female Chihuahua from Dorado, Puerto Rico.

Fully grown, five-year-old Milly measures 9.65cm tall and weighs just one pound.

Being the smallest dog in the world brings its own fanclub. Youtube videos of Milly attract hundreds of thousands of views, and her Facebook page has more than 250,000 likes.

At 8oz, Bolton’s tiny Tim is currently half the size of record breaker Milly.

He’s got a good few months of growing to go but, who knows, could this precious little pup be about to steal her crown?
