A MAN was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court after he admitted he intended to get caught drink driving.

The court heard that Gerard Finnon was at a party drinking with friends when he started discussing what were described as personal issues.

The 27-year-old said he was receiving a lack of assistance to deal with the issues he was talking about and said to his friends to get more help he required to be caught drink driving.

He then left the property, entered a vehicle and drove off.

Police were called out to the property where they found the accused parked in the driveway of the property.

Finnon confirmed to police he had drove the car after police noticed the bonnet of the vehicle was warm.

He was breathalysed the cautioned and charged.

Finnon of Laburnum Road, Uddingston, admitted that on September 24 last year on Bellahouston Drive he drove a car after consuming so much alcohol he had 84 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

His defending solicitor said Finnon was going through “tragic circumstances” at the time.

The solicitor added it was an “unusual” case and his client’s issues had been worked through and sorted out.

Finnon was disqualified from driving for 18 months and fined £300.

James Gilmour admitted that on May 9 at Helenvale Street he behaved in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting and swearing.

He also admitted that on the same date at the same place he had an offensive weapon in his possession – in the form of a ball within a sock – without reasonable excuse or lawful authority.
