The deal between the Tories and the DUP to keep Theresa May in Downing Street has been branded “grubby” by Nicola Sturgeon.

Other Scottish party leaders also criticised the deal as an “insult” and a “stitch –up” after it emerged Northern Ireland will get £1.5bn of cash in return for the support of the DUP MPs needed to secure a majority for the government in key votes.

Scottish SNBP, Labour and Green politicians argue that Scotland should get a share of any extra cash allocated from Westminster to Northern Ireland.

Nicola Sturgeon said the deal showed a lack of fairness and the DUP had more influence than Scottish Conservative MPs.

The First Minister said on twitter: “Any sense of fairness sacrificed on the altar of grubby DUP deal to let PM cling to power, and Scots Tories influence in No10 shown to be zero.”

Labour Scottish Leader, Kezia Dugdale said Scotland must also get extra cash.

She said: “This deal with the DUP has taken more than two weeks to stitch-up, proving just how little authority Theresa May has left.

“If the price of propping up this miserable Tory government is hundreds of millions of pounds for Northern Ireland, it is vital that all nations and regions of the UK also get extra funding to end austerity.”

She also said Ruth Davidson should be demanding Scotland gets extra cash as well.

Patrick Harvie, Green MSP said it was an “insult”.

He said: "Investment in health, education and infrastructure are urgently needed, but that must mean an end to Tory cuts everywhere, not just in exchange for the votes Theresa May needs to cling on to power after her dismal election result.

“This deal is an insult to everyone who believed the UK Government’s promises of fairness and respect to all parts of the UK, and the Tory MPs elected in Scotland will not have a shred of integrity left if they support this.”

He added that David Mundell, Scottish Secretary, said he wouldn’t back a deal that didn’t involve allocations for Scotland and said Mr Mundell must oppose the deal.
