A MAN has been rushed to hospital after he was battered by two men in a targeted attack in East Kilbride.

The victim, 43, was with a friend walking along Telford Road at its junction with Freeland Lane when the attackers struck.

The assault happened at 9.30pm on Tuesday, June 27. Police are now investigating.

Officers say the two attackers left the man's friend alone before they made off in an unknown direction.

Their victim was helped by a woman before he was then rushed to Hairmyres Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as stable.

Cops hunting the two men responsible have released descriptions.

The first suspect is described as white, in his 40s with a stocky build and short red hair. He was wearing jeans, a black hooded top and black baseball cap.

The other suspect is described as being "a little older" at around 6ft tall with a thin build and short brown hair.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are reviewing CCTV images for any additional information which could assist the investigation.

Detective Constable Colin Thapar said: "We believe this was a targeted attack, however, what we need to establish is why this victim was targeted.

"We are continuing to carry out enquiries in the area and I am appealing to local people to contact us.

"In particular, a lady who came to the victim’s aid, I would ask this lady to contact us as she may hold vital information which could assist our enquiries."
