Glasgow bars have come together to step in and soften the blow for Green Day fans after the US group cancelled their gig tonight with just hours to go.

American beer Pabst Blue Ribbon has announced it will be easing fans’ pain as the brand throws a free party at East End venue Saint Luke’s in Bain Street with punk tunes playing all night, live music and plenty of drink.

The company has even arranged for the UK’s premiere Green Day tribute act ‘Green Date’ to turn up and play the classics.

Punk punters left in limbo by the last-minute cancellation should head along to Saint Luke’s for 6pm to celebrate Independence Day in style.

Doors open at 6pm, with a DJ playing punk rock classics from 7pm. Green Date will be on stage at 10pm with the party ending at midnight. Entry is free. Click here for event information.

As if that wasn’t enough, Trongate bar and restaurant Maggie Mays has also extended an exclusive Green Day offer to all fans following the announcement.

The team said: “Gutted to hear Green Day have cancelled for Bellahouston Park, but the party will go on at Maggie’s.

“We’ll have Green Day pounding out our speakers all day, plus two-for-one burgers when you show your gig ticket.

“And if Billie Joe and the boys want to jam, we’ve got a dry stage and a PA.”

The team at Drury Street Bar & Kitchen just off Renfield Street is also inviting disappointed fans to pop along for some “choice bevy” and 25 per cent off food with their tickets.

The bar said: “We’ll stick some live shows on the projector so you can pretend you’re there/cry into your pint.”

Campus club in Sauchiehall Street has also said: “Well the party’s never cancelled at Campus Glasgow.

“Free entry to all you Green Day fans tonight with your ticket stubs, open now until 3am. Do it.”

The Butterfly and the Pig South in Pollokshaws Road is having its own celebrations too.

Meanwhile, Crossing The Rubicon in Great Western Road is offering fans a beer on the house.

Viva Brazil in Bothwell Street is offering 25 per cent off all food bills for those who present staff with their gig ticket, while Cathouse in Union Street confirmed its Green Day afterparty is still going ahead.

Paisley band FreeSpeech - a rock-pop group that is well-known locally for performing an extensive range of covers and original material - are also aiming to set up a gig at a later date for disappointed fans.

Lead guitarist and vocalist Raymond McSherry told the Evening Times: “I just feel really bad because thousands of people - including myself - had bought tickets and they’ve nowhere to go.”

What is your response?I'm in Glasgow now with friends who have travelled from both Inverness and Aberdeen. Spending a small fortune on travel and accommodation for it to be cancelled at such short notice and not even an honest statement from the organisers. Ticket refunds are not going to cut it for most people. Its clearly nothing to do with any of the bands involved.

What is your response?Took my last lieu day from work for this gig... if they'd cancelled a day or two ago I could've saved my last "holiday" poor show, this is tee shirt weather in Scotland.
