A MAN who performed a sex act in the car park of a leading motor dealer’s showroom said he was horrified by his own behaviour as he was sentenced.

David Sharpe was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court for committing the explicit act which was witnessed by a young child.

The 29-year-old admitted that he committed an act of public indecency and did expose himself at the Arnold Clark on Garscube Road in Maryhill.

Sharpe, of Boyd Street, Glasgow, had been drinking two days prior to the incident and had consumed an ecstasy tablet before witnesses saw him on top of a vehicle.

They witnesses him pull down his jogging bottoms, expose himself and perform a sex act.

The dealership was then phoned by the witnesses from a nearby home which lead to members of staff going out and asking him what he was doing.

The accused then became startled and stopped what he was doing, came down from the top of the vehicle and began to walk away from the garage.

Police arrived and caught up with Sharpe nearby but didn’t caution and charge him at the time due to his level of intoxication.

Sharpe’s defending agent said the incident, which took place on April 27 this year, was a “wake-up call” for the accused.

She also said what motivated Sharpe to carry out the act was not spurred by “sexual deviance” but by “sexual gratification”.

“He is horrified by his behaviour and accepts that he needs further assistance,” she added.

The agent went on to say that Sharpe had a realistic notion of the responsibility he had to take for the public who witnessed his offending.

But, the act was in no way targeted towards anyone.

Sentencing Sheriff Ruxton said: “You cannot continue this behaviour - what has happened in this occasion has happened before.

“And in this instance it was seen by a young girl.

“I accept you didn’t aim your behaviour at anyone.

“But you need to stop this behaviour.”

Sharpe was ordered to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work.
