They were only in Glasgow for a couple of days, but it seems the city rubbed off on US rockers Green Day in a big way.

After breaking the hearts of thousands of fans with the shock announcement that their Bellahouston Park gig was cancelled yesterday with just hours to go, it seems the lads set off on the town to drown their sorrows.

In a very Glaswegian post on Instagram, bassist Mike Dirnt has summed up his time in the city in the best possible way this afternoon, something that’s sure to be a hit with their Scottish fans.

Posting pictures of the Scottish flag, an Innis & Gunn beer bottle, and plenty of shots of whisky, Mike said: “Pure ragin that the show was cancelled, but gid banter with my local friends...left Glasgow pure steamin!”

He also slotted in the hashtags “#ScotlandGotMeDrunk!” and “#ThanksGlasgow!”

“#wellthatescalatedquickly! Thanks Glosgow!” he added.

Many fans, too, hit the town to take their mind off the disappointing news.

As reported by the Evening Times shortly after the announcement, bars and venues across the city came together to soften the blow for gutted rock fans as they opened their doors with offers and impromptu Green Day-themed parties, including this one in the east end which was a huge hit with punkers.
