GLASGOW’S former Yorkhill and Queen Mum’s hospitals could be on the market this year as part of a plan to rake in £45million from the sale of crumbling NHS buildings.

Official documents state that the site will will be marketed before the end of the 2017 or early next year.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is considering two options, an outright sale or a sale and lease-back agreement.

The building houses a number of services as the West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital including cardiac outpatient clinics, following the closure of the children’s hospital in 2015.

It was also home to a Minor Injuries Unit, which was closed in December. The health board is carrying out a review into the future siting of the unit at Yorkhill or the Gartnavel site.

The former Queen Mother’s maternity hospital, part of the same site, closed in 2010 and is currently vacant.

The health board is aiming to bring in around £45.9million over the next five years through the disposal of properties which have been declared surplus to requirements.

The papers state that more than half of NHS buildings are more than 30 years old with 29% described as being in a poor condition with evidence of major defects.

Part of Dykebar hospital will also be marketed for sale in the Summer.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is tasked with making saving of around £70million.

The Western Infirmary site was sold to Glasgow University for £14million in 2012 as part of a historic agreement and plans are underway to extend the university.

The Victoria Infirmary site was sold for £6.5 million and is now under development by Sanctuary Housing.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is waiting to find out if the Health Secretary, Shona Robison will approve the closure of Lightburn Hospital in Carntyne which could also be sold.

A spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “There has been no decision on the sale or leaseback of the Yorkhill site which includes the old children and maternity hospitals.

“A full review of the future MIU service for West Glasgow is about to get underway which will look at the options for the service including engagement with patients and GPs.

“The review will be concluded and presented for decision as soon as possible.

The children’s hospital at Yorkhill opened in 1914 following a major public appeal which raised almost £140,000.
